VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Premier benefited politically from the Canucks’ run to the Stanley Cup, according to one political analyst. Sean Holman says Christy Clark may be spinning Wednesday’s riot in her favour.
He says she was a cheerleader for the team by raising their flag at the legislature and even attending Game 7. Now, in the wake of the riot, she’s getting tough on crime, threatening rioters they’ll be punished.
Holman adds it’s not that she’s doing anything wrong, but she should have said all the right things before the game even took place.
“She’s very skillful as a politician and I think clearly she is benefiting from what has happened and her response to what has happened.”
The province has formed a team of crown prosecutors to lay charges against rioters and looters from Wednesday night. Clark says there is “a mountain of evidence” that will lead to criminal convictions.
