Online petition for Digby man held in Spanish jail

Supporters of a Nova Scotia man being held in a Spanish jail have begun an online petition seeking his speedy release or a hasty trial.

Philip Halliday of Digby, who has liver disease, is waiting trial on drug trafficking charges.

The 54-year-old was arrested in December 2009 off the coast of Spain, along with the crew of a 45-metre freighter on which he worked.

Halliday maintains he is innocent.
