More information expected on Richard Oland’s death

Police are expected to release more information about the death of Atlantic businessman Richard Oland at a news conference in Saint John today.

The 69-year-old member of the Moosehead beer-making family was found in a Canterbury Street office building Thursday morning.

Police are treating his death as suspicious.

The sudden death has shocked the Maritime business community. Saint John Mayor Ivan Court says he was stunned by the news.

“It’s quite a shock to myself and I think to every citizen who’s ever known Dick,” he said. “He was a gentleman and could be counted on. He was not one that wanted to be in the spotlight, he was one that worked behind the scenes and quietly moved the city on.

In a news release, Oland’s brother Derek says his family is saddened by the sudden death.
