Halifax teen makes top 16 on YTV’s ‘The Next Star’

Some local talent is making it big on YTV’s “The Next Star.”
The singing competition for tweens revealed the top 16 finalists Monday night and 15-year-old Andrew Machum of Halifax is one of them!
He tells News 95.7 he’s over the moon about the result.
“It’s a really good feeling, just to know that you’re one of the top 16,” he said. “They chose that many out of 4000, or something like that. It’s a really amazing feeling.”
The show, hosted by Adamo Ruggiero, is in its fourth season and features 16 kids ages 15 and under who auditioned across Canada this spring.
From sixteen, six finalists will be chosen and prepped for stardom with the help of musician Suzie McNeil, songwriter Christopher Ward and music marketing exec Steve Cranwell, who return to make up the series’ panel of experts.
Andrew says he’s feeling confident about his chances, citing his experience as a singer and all-around musician.
“I sing, I’ve been singing pretty much since I could talk, really,” he said. “I play piano all the time and I play a bit of drums, and I make YouTube videos and all that stuff.”
Andrew’s bio lists international sensations Adele and Bruno Mars among his personal idols and states his ultimate dream is to one day perform live on-stage with Canadian band Hedley.
