The Better Business Bureau is warning students and renters about online apartment scams.
A release from the bureau says that as students prepare to return to school, many are turning to Craigslist or Kijiji to find a home – and the bureau says it’s getting lots of consumer reports about scam artists lurking on those sites.
The agency says to be leery of any ad that looks too good to be true – even ads that include pictures. If the rental price is low compared to other properties in the area, walk away.
You should also be careful if the landlord will communicate only by email and asks for money before letting you see the apartment.
