Council defers implementation of Code of Conduct

Council didn’t implement the new Code of Conduct for Municipal Elected Officials Tuesday, instead deciding to differ it until the October 4th council meeting

Councilor Linda Mosher asked for the deferral after it was revealed the auditor general had come forward and said he had some suggestions after reading the document.

Mosher said the auditor general wanted the time to make those suggestions to the Executive Standing Committee because it would help create a tighter document.

Several councilors said it should have been dealt with during Tuesday’s council meeting, with Councilor Bill Karsten going as far as to say it would be an embarrassment if it was differed.

In the end, Councilor Mosher’s assertion that the auditor general’s input would allow the best document possible to be presented to the province held up, and although it was an extremely close vote, council differed the decision until the October 4th meeting.
