Interim NDP leader talks shipbuilding with Premier Dexter

Shipbuilding contracts came up during a Tuesday meeting between interim NDP leader Nycole Turmel and Nova Scotia Preimer Darrell Dexter.
Turmel says she doesn’t support one bid over another and adds there’s enough work for everyone.
“Many places can get and share the money,” she explains. “For us federally, we’re looking for a fair and transparent process.”
Premier Dexter adds he’s not worried that the large contingent of New Democrat MPs in Quebec will sway the decision, but says he would expect MPs to lobby for their own jurisdictions.
Dexter tells News 95.7 the work has already been split into three pieces.
“There’s the combat contract, there’s the non-combat and then there’s a third piece which the government has said they will distribute for, I think, the maintenance and further work that’s going to be done on the existing fleet of ships,” says Dexter.
He says it’s his understanding that the third piece will be for a yard that doesn’t get part of the larger contract.
Dexter adds he’s looking forward to the current process coming to an end, which should be sometime this month.
