An politicians get back to business at the Nova Scotia Legislature tonight, the opposition Liberals have chosen their first pet issue.
Energy critic Andrew Younger outlined a bill to force Nova Scotia Power to do performance and value-for-money audits every two years.
“Anybody that goes running scared of an audit like Nova Scotia Power is doing has something to hide,” said Younger.
He says the Ratepayer Protection Act would reduce electricity bills.
“NSP has spent $15-million on regulatory costs over the past three years,” said Younger. “This bill would prevent many of those costs from being passed to ratepayers.”
The bill would also require settlement hearings for General Rate Applications be public.
Younger says the Dexter government is willing to tell teachers, universities and hospitals that budgets will have to be cut, but has not done the same with Nova Scotia Power.
