Bus terminal shooting suspect arrested

A man accused of shooting a 16-year-old boy at the Wyse Road bus terminal early on New Year’s Day has been arrested.

Police announced a charge of attempted murder against 18-year-old Jerrell Shephard, even though he was not yet in custody.

Halifax Constable Brian Palmeter says police were contacted and arrangements made for the accused to turn himself in on Friday afternoon.

“Officers have been out over the past number of days speaking with family, friends, actively looking for this individual,” said Cst. Palmeter. “Certainly, we believe the public pressure has played a part in him ultimately turning himself in to police this afternoon.”

Officers had a picture of Shephard, but it was taken before he’d turned 18. They got special permission to release it to the public, under the condition media outlets stopped showing it after Saturday.
