Bar ban program already seeing results

A new program designed to keep troublemakers out of downtown Halifax bars is already seeing results – and it’s not even a week old.
The Chronicle Herald reports two people have already been banned through the Patron Accountability Safety and Service program, or PASS.
One of the suspensions was for trying to use a fake ID, the other was for fighting.
More than 20 bars have adopted the PASS program which means if you’re banned from one bar, you’re banned from them all.
A ban can range anywhere from six months to indefinite.
Anyone who is banned is given a card with information that lets them know how to appeal the decision.
A spokesperson for the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia says they’ve had no problem getting bar owners to sign up for PASS.
The program is operating as a one year-test program downtown right now, but it’s expected to move to Dartmouth eventually.
