Cash for commuter rail study up for debate

Regional councillors will discuss the next step towards commuter rail at this week’s council meeting.

HRM’s transportation committee recommends paying a consultant $250,000 for a feasibility analysis of a commuter line running from Enfield and Windsor Junction to the downtown core.

Tim Outhit tells Metro it’s time to stop talking, and decide whether commuter rail will be part of HRM’s transportation strategy in the next 20 years.

Outhit says ideally, the train’s operation would be outsourced to CN or VIA.

So far, an online petition in support of commuter rail has 57 signatures.
