Sheila Nabb’s family members question attacker’s confession

CALGARY (NEWS1130) – It’s been two days since the confession of Jose Quintero and family members of Sheila Nabb say they are left with more questions than answers.

Nabb was found bloodied, and unconscious, with every bone in her face broken a week and a half ago in the elevator of her Mazatlan resort.

Authorities stood by a visibly nervous Quintero Saturday, who admitted to local media he was drunk and high on cocaine when he assaulted 37-year-old Nabb.

Quintero says he walked into the beach entrance of the hotel and entered the elevator to get a good view of the entire city.

He says that’s when he ran into Nabb, who was naked, and he struck up a conversation.

The 28-year-old Mexican man then refused to let her out and panicked when she started screaming for help.  He says he tried to cover her mouth and punched her four our five times.

Quintero was due in court Monday on charges of attempted murder and could face up to 14 years in prison if convicted.

He was arrested near his home on Friday. Authorities say he’s being kept in a nearby police station under close supervision.

The admission has left relatives, like Lois Morris in Ontario, questioning his version of events, calling the admission bizarre and out of the ordinary.

Morris tells The Calgary Sun there is no way Nabb would be out on her own and naked, adding she never knew her to sleepwalk.

“If something previously had gone down, where is your sense of honour to ask if she needed help?” she asks.

And as for the public apology to her family, Morris says she doesn’t accept it.

In the meantime, Nabb continues to recover in Calgary at the Foothills Hospital.

A Facebook group has been set up, detailing fundraising events for the family around the country.

Donations to help are being accepted at TD Canada Trust, transit number 8072 and account number 6519124.
