MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – A man’s body was found in a ditch near a rural cranberry farm in Pitt Meadows yesterday morning and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says it appears he was murdered.
Sergeant Jennifer Pound with IHIT tells us someone spotted the body near 224th Street at 144th Avenue around 10:30 a.m.
“It’s in a gravel-type road on the west side of the street,” she explains. “At this point, it’s too early to determine what is the cause of death, but it appears that he has met with foul play and homicide is suspected. We have yet to identify the victim.”
News1130’s Kim Seale flew over the area, not far from Blaney Bog Regional Park, yesterday afternoon.
“There’s an absolutely huge Maple Ridge police presence. This is a trail area, hardly any houses,” she describes.
She spotted police setting up yellow tape in quadrants.
Police say an autopsy is planned. Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448, or to remain anonymous, call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
