Plans unveiled for new White Point lodge

The owner of the White Point Beach Resort has unveiled design plans to rebuild the site, after it was devastated by fire three months ago.
Flames ripped through the main building at the historic vacation spot on Nov. 12, reduced the 83-year-old lodge to rubble.
Robert Risley, the resort’s owner, promised to rebuild the site and requested guest feedback for the proposed design.
He and a team of architects made the new design public Tuesday afternoon.
“This thing is far too big for me to not jump in with both feet and get this thing up and operating just as quickly as possible,” Risley said.
He tells Global news the proposed construction schedule is ambitious: shovels in the ground by March with the grand opening in late October.
“Many people have told me it’s impossible, but if you don’t try to achieve the impossible then you never will,” Risley said.
Joe Zareski, one of the architects who worked on White Point’s design, also attended the announcement.
“When you arrive here, you’re immediately greeted with that view of the ocean,” Zareski explained. “And once you’re drawn in you can hang out by a roaring fireplace.”
A group of long-time supporters of the resort were also at the announcement; they said were excited to be among the first guests to stay at the newly-reopened hotel.
