Man found dead in cell at Burnside jail

A prisoner has been found dead in his jail cell in Burnside.

The 25-year-old man was discovered in his cell before 8:30 a.m. Foul play is not suspected. His next of kin have been notified.

The man was arrested March 4 and was facing charges of smuggling, importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He arrived at the correctional facility on March 5.

Halifax Regional Police, the Medical Examiner Service and the Department of Justice are investigating.
