Union warned against blocking snowplows

Halifax Regional police say the next time striking transit workers try to hold up snow plows – they could face charges.
Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union picketed three municipal depots across HRM on Monday morning.
All vehicles entering and exiting the sites were held up – some as long as 15 minutes each way – including snowplows and salt trucks.
ATU president Ken Wilson told News 95.7 the demonstration caused no risk to the public because the roads were bare.
But police spokesperson Theresa Rath tells Metro Halifax, the action is considered as a public safety issue and if it happens again, officers will respond.
Wilson wouldn’t say whether the garages would be picketed again today, but he said workers will move if police tell them to.
