The Royal Bank of Canada has announced they will be the first tenants in the new environmentally friendly office tower being built on Hollis Street.
The Armour Group will design the tower to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.
Kim Mason, RBC Regional President of Atlantic Provinces, says the green building was one of many factors in the decision to move.
“The other factors were accessibility and convenience for our customers, another factor was visibility and making sure that we maintained visibility along the waterfront and also in the downtown core and of course the environmental side of it is very very important,” she says.
Mason adds the new branch will be more up-to-date for customers.
“Our branch that is currently at Royal Centre is more of a traditional model, a long row of wickets, and the CSR’s are all on one side and our customers line up on the other side. This will be a completely different experience for our customers, it will be very interactive,” she says.
The new building is set for completion in late 2013 and RBC will move to the new space in mid-to-late 2014.
