Vets concerned about food quality

Elderly veterans at a hospital in Halifax say the food they’re being served is of poor quality and lacking in nutrition.

Jack Walsh says residents of the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building are served mushy vegetables, sandwiches that are sometimes tough and cold, and processed meats.

Steven Blaney, a spokesman for the Veterans Affairs minister, says he’s asked officials to speak with Capital Health to ensure residents are receiving proper care.

Jane Pryor, director of hospitality services at Capital Health, says the meals meet nutritional requirements and the veterans are consulted about what they want on the menu.
