Workers head back to NewPage mill Monday

About 140 workers will be back on the job Monday as they prepare to restart an idled paper mill in Cape Breton.
Marc Dube, an executive with Pacific West Commercial Corp., says the firm needs the workers to make repairs and do maintenance on the NewPage Port Hawkesbury equipment.
He says the final decision on restarting the mill and rehiring all of the 330 mill workers at the Point Tupper factory is dependent on a ruling from the Canada Revenue Agency later this month.
The agency is expected to rule on a complex tax arrangement that is part of a power rate deal the prospective owner has signed with Nova Scotia Power.
Dube says he’s planning to have the mill ready to fill paper orders early this fall.
Pacific West is working to finalize its $33-million purchase of the mill.
