MONCTON, NB – Moncton lawyer Brian Gallant has been elected as the new leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party.
More than 14,000 Liberals voted with Gallant capturing 59 percent of the vote at the party’s convention in Moncton today.
The 30-year-old Gallant had a message for Premier David Alward.
“Mr. Alward, I can guarantee you that under my leadership we are going to want to work with you. We hope it’s going to be in an open, accountable, civil, respectful and constructive way.”
Gallant is urging all Liberals to come together regardless of who they voted for.
Former cabinet minister Mike Murphy captured 38 percent of the vote while former Belledune Mayor Nick Duivenvoorden was third with 3 percent of the vote.
