Charles P. Allen High School students will get to talk to Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield this afternoon.
Paul Gettus is a science teacher at CPA and says Commander Hadfield will take questions from students about life in space via radio as the International Space Station passes over Nova Scotia.
“We have nine students that have been selected through an application process, they are thrilled,” says Gettus.
He says the questions will vary.
“There are medical questions, there’s questions about physics, along with general ones,” explains Gettus.
He says the opportunity for the chat arose a year ago while speaking to his neighbour.
“One day we stopped and started talking, and it turns out he is the ARISS Canada school mentor, and he has been organizing these contacts with schools throughout Canada and the US for a number of years,” says Gettus.
‘ARISS’ is short for Amateur Radio on the International Space Station.
CPA is the first public school in the province to make contact with the space station.
The event is open to the general public, it starts at 1:00pm and will take place in the CPA gymnasium.
