Natal Day events take over HRM

The long weekend is finally here and Haligonians are ready to celebrate!
There are a ton of events all weekend long. On Saturday, there’s a Mother Goose festival for kids at the Ferry Terminal Park in Dartmouth and a garden party with mayor Mike Savage and councillors at the Public Gardens.
“You won’t want to miss it,” said Tim Rissesco, chair of the Natal Day committee. “Musicians playing woodwinds around the fountains, a day long concert, face painting, magicians… there will be activities in every corner of the park.”
Saturday night, Joel Plaskett Emergency will rock Alderney Landing and the biggest fireworks show will light up the MacDonald bridge at 10 o’clock. There is a chance of thundershowers Saturday night. If the weather is poor, Rissesco says they’ll make a decision around 6 o’clock if they will postpone the show to Sunday (call 311 for the latest).
“You’ll want to be able to see the full bridge,” adds Rissesco. “Be in a spot where you’ll see the water line right to the top to catch all the effects that we have planned. We have effects planned for above and beneath the MacDonald.”
The Natal Day parade hits the streets from the Hydrostone Market in Halifax, across the bridge to Sullivan’s Pond. This years parade marshal is Halifax Mooseheads’ defencemen Trey Lewis, who will be leading the parade with the Memorial and Presidents Cup.
