Five-year-old let off school bus at wrong stop

It’s a scenario which seems to pop up every school year, but that doesn’t make it any less frightening when it happens.

A five-year-old Halifax boy was let off his bus at the wrong stop last Thursday and his parents aren’t happy with the response from the bus company.

It was the first week of school for the boy, who attends Fairview Heights Annex and even though his parents told him to make sure he only got off the bus when he saw them, he somehow slipped off at the wrong stop.

Mom Amanda told The Rick Howe Show she was freaking out when the bus pulled up and her son wasn’t on it.

“With all the child abductions and everything else going on I mean, your mind immediately goes to a bad place,” she said.

As she was trying to figure out what had happened, the police pulled up with her son after a concerned citizen saw the little guy standing alone at the side of the road.

Obviously frustrated with the situation, the boy’s father Mark said they called Stock Transportation but were told since there was no missing child, there were no more concerns.

“I was a little disgusted with that,” he said. “At the end of the day, while they’re travelling on their buses, they’re responsible for our kids.”

He added he doesn’t blame the bus driver because the drivers shouldn’t be responsible for that many kids on their own.

Mark said there’s a simple solution – hire a second adult to be on the bus to help out.

“There are seniors that have retired that are looking for extra income, whether it be two hours a day to four hours a day,” he said. “Stock is just going to end up putting the blame on the school.”
