Runners across Canada participate in 33rd Terry Fox run

The annual Terry Fox Run is happening in communities all across the Canada Sunday morning.
The Terry Fox Foundation’s Nova Scotia director Barbara Fickes says the annual run has been able to make some major headway in terms of fighting cancer.
“We greatly appreciate all the support we’ve had over the years,” said Fickes. “The grand total is more than $600 million over the past 33 years. It’s quite remarkable.”
Terry Fox was 18 years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer and forced to have his right leg amputated in 1977. While in hospital, Fox decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Fox ran the Marathon of Hope for 413 days and 5,373 kilometres, but stopped short when cancer appeared in his lungs. He passed away on June 28, 1981 at the age 22.
