Officer recovering after being stabbed in the neck and forearm

A Halifax police officer has been released from hospital after he was stabbed twice Friday night while attempting to make an arrest.
Police say the officer went to Metro Turning Point, an emergency homeless shelter on Barrington Street, at around 8:30 p.m. to arrest a 31-year-old man wanted on an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court.
“When the suspect noticed police he fled on foot,” explained Constable Pierre Bourdages. “As the officer caught up with him, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed one of the officers in the neck and forearm.”
Bourdages says the man was later Tasered by the other officer and taken into custody and a knife was recovered at the scene. The officer, who’s been with the force for six years, was taken to the QEII.
“He’s in good condition,” explains Staff Sergent Bill Morris. “As well as can be expected, like we said he had several stab wounds.”
The officer is expected to make a full recovery. The suspect is still in police custody and will be in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday to face a number of charges including attempt murder, aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer.
