Medium-security prison locked down over unspecified ‘security situation’

SPRINGHILL, N.S. – An official with the Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia says the prison has been locked down due to a security problem.

Spokeswoman Shannon Oickle said Friday there was a security, and health and safety situation at the prison but would not provide any details.

Oickle said the facility in Springhill was locked down Wednesday evening, but she wouldn’t say what prompted the decision.

All 450 inmates are being fed in their cells and visits have been cancelled at the medium-security prison.
