After a national search, the Halifax Regional School Board has named a new superintendent.
Elwin LeRoux, who has served in various positions within HRSB over the past 24 years, is filling the position immediately.
LeRoux has been a teacher, vice-principal, principal, supervisor and coordinator of school administration. Most recently, he was a senior staff advisor.
“Following a national search, we are extremely pleased to have a person with Elwin’s skills and vision as our new superintendent,” board chair Gin Yee said in news release. “Elwin is very interested in how students learn and he is enthusiastic about how we can use technology to engage and educate them. He is absolutely the best candidate, period.”
A native of Glace Bay, LeRoux completed an undergraduate degree in Science at St. Francis Xavier University and a Bachelor of Education at Saint Mary’s University. He subsequently received two master’s degrees in Education from Saint Mary’s.
He lives in Fall River with his wife Monique and four children, all who are either students, or have graduated from schools, in the HRSB. He is fluent in both English and French.
LeRoux replaces Carole Olsen who resigned in August 2012.
