It’s that time of year again when another person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
This weekend you can put items you’re not using to the curb with a “free” sign for anyone to pick up for Curbside Giveaway. Shannon Betts is with HRM’s solid waste department, she says it also gives you a chance to drive around and find something you might need.
“The whole purpose of it is to try and keep some things out of landfills, to give them a longer life,” explained Betts.
Curbside Giveaway is held twice a year, with the last one being in June.
“It can be anything really,” added Betts. “People place books out, different types of furniture, kids toys, sporting equipment, so there’s really no limit to the types of items people can put out.”
The city does not want you to put out items that aren’t re-usable, are infested with bed bugs or aren’t safe to give away. Items can be left on the curb until dusk on Sunday.
