A pair of fugitives wanted on Canada-wide warrants, who have been on the run for months, have been arrested in north end Halifax.
Brandon Joseph Mombourquette, Andrew Jason Hudder and a third man who was also known to police, were taken into custody after police conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious pickup truck.
Staff Sgt. Reid McCombs told News 95.7 the quick response unit tried to stop the pickup shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night in a parking lot on Macara Street near Agricola Street.
“The driver of the vehicle attempted to evade police and in doing so drove the pickup truck into the front end of the unmarked police car,” he explained.
Police flooded the scene and took two of the men into custody right away. The third was taken down after a short foot chase. Only then did officers realize who they had arrested.
One of the men was 26-year-old Andrew Hudder who’s a suspect in a drive by shooting that happened on Robie Street last November, when someone in a car fired several shots at a passenger in taxi.
He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon and nine weapons related offences.
The other was 28-year-old Brandon Mombourquette, who was wanted on weapons offences after a 2009 traffic stop where police found a loaded handgun.
He failed to attend a court date scheduled for earlier this year and police issued an Atlantic region-wide warrant for his arrest.
McCoombs expected more charges to be laid today.
“Probably assault with a weapon charges with the vehicle and possibly any other breaches of court orders or any other charges that come out of the investigation,” he said.
