Nova Scotia Museum goes online

Research done at the Nova Scotia Museum will now be available online.
Museum curator Dan Conlin says a few years ago, the museum’s publishing program was put on hold because of its high cost.
“These new information technologies that are creating publishing online with PDF’s and downloadable books and book readers opened the door to do publishing that is not only easier on resources but reaches a much larger audience,” he says.
Conlin says all books, reports and info sheets done by the museums research department will be scanned into the system and put online.
One of the first books being made available online is “Baskets of Black Nova Scotians” by Joleen Gordon.
She says the idea of moving everything online was daunting at first but she’s starting to warm up to the idea.
“It’s so much easier for publishers because you don’t have to worry about the costs of printing and binding and what kind of paper to use so you don’t have all these extra costs,” she explains.
She adds all reports and e-books including hers are available for free download onto tablets and computers from museum.novascotia.ca.
