Snook sentencing today on Newfoundland offences

SAINT JOHN, N.B.- A former Saint John city councillor already serving an 18-year sentence for child sex offences will be sentenced today on four other child sex offences in a separate case in Newfoundland.
Donnie Snook pleaded guilty to the four charges last month after they were transferred to New Brunswick from Newfoundland and Labrador.
Investigators said the offences occurred between Dec. 1, 1995 and August of 1996 at or near Mount Moriah, N.L. while Snook was working with the Salvation Army.
Snook is appealing his 18-year sentence on the New Brunswick charges, saying it is unreasonable.
Meanwhile the Crown is also appealing, saying the judge gave Snook too much credit for his pre-sentence custody, and failed to consider a section of the Criminal Code that requires an offender to serve half their sentence or 10 years, whichever is less, before becoming eligible for parole.
