CCRSB strike ends, buses to resume Wednesday

The strike is over at the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board.

Parents and guardians of 17,000 students who regularly use the bus to attend 76 schools in Cumberland, Colchester and Pictou counties scrambled this week to make alternate arrangements after bus drivers, tradespeople and custodians went on strike.

The board and the union announced Tuesday afternoon that they have agreed to move to mediation.

“As such, CUPE is recalling its members back to work this afternoon for mid-afternoon into evening shifts and to retrieve buses,” said CCRSB in a statement. “All other employees will return to work as normal tomorrow.”

“Local 3890 and the Board have agreed to send the one outstanding issue, which is contracting out language, to a mediator,” said CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland. “Both sides have agreed on Bruce Outhouse as that mediator.”

Buses will be running normally on Wednesday morning.
