Michelin Development to help start-ups in Pictou County

An official with Michelin Canada was in Pictou County yesterday to explain how the company will help start-up companies reduce unemployment in the region.

The company is cutting 500 jobs at the plant over the next 18 months.

John Tully, the president of Michelin Development, says the company will make loans of up to $100,000 over a term of five and half years to start-up firms.

He says $2 million is being made available initially, and the goal is to replace about half the jobs lost from the layoff.
