Halifax seeks consultant to conduct commuter rail feasibility study

HALIFAX – After years of talk Halifax is planning to move ahead with a commuter rail study.
The municipality is seeking a consultant to research the public transit option to determine if it would be possible.
A proposal request for a feasibility study was issued this week with a bid deadline of May 23.
According to the request for proposals the feasibility study would cover the existing Halifax to Windsor Junction and Enfield rail corridor.
The possibility of a to-work-and-home rail system serving Halifax and bedroom communities goes back at least 17 years.
In the past, municipal staff have said such a transit system would be tough to implement.
