Community group questions St. Patrick’s-Alexandra report

A local community is speaking out about a report coming to city council today recommending a their proposal to buy the old St. Patrick’s-Alexandra site be rejected.
The report says the North Central Community Council Association’s bid doesn’t show they have the resources to bring the building up to code and maintain it.
The association’s director Reverend Rhonda Britton told News 95.7 they don’t see the building requiring as much work as the report says.
“It was a running school up until the fall of 2011, so how can you turn around the next year and say it needs millions of dollars of repairs,” said Britton. “The only reason the school closed was because of low enrollment, not because anything was wrong with the building.”
The group wants to turn the property into a site including a community hub and affordable housing.
They are offering to buy it for $3.7 million, but the report says the city should sell it at a market price of $5.2 million.
