Protests of Pictou County pulp mill continue

A spill at the Northern Pulp Mill in Pictou County has reignited calls for the cleanup of Boat Harbour and the leader of a nearby First Nation says her community is fed up.
Andrea Paul told News 95.7 protests at the site of a wastewater spill near her community will continue until the province comes up with a plan to clean up the area.
Paul said people in her community have lived with the effects of a nearby toxic dump for too long, and the province knows it.
“Forty-seven years of Pictou Landing First Nation and Pictou County dealing with this issue, so I think they’re going to be very, very careful about how they approach this.”
Paul said communication with the province has been mostly positive, but she needs a firm commitment on a cleanup strategy for the site.
‘We’re just asking them to hold true to their promise. This promise was done numerous times, and the community is – they’re pretty fed up.’
The province has said it is committed to cleaning up the site, but neither Premier Stephen McNeil nor Environment Minister Randy Delorey would give details on a timeline, or a cost.
