Arthur is causing some concern at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, as the storm tracks along the east coast.
If travellers have to spend part of their weekend in the terminal, airport authority spokesman Peter Spurway told News 95.7, they’ll be made comfortable.
“For example, we have a full slate of baby supplies, including food and formula,” said Spurway. “We even have cat food and dog food, sleeping mats, pillows.”
Spurway said flight cancellations are up individual airlines, but the airport is making its own preparations.
Down the road from the main terminal is Gateway Facilities, a fixed-base operator, where many small planes are parked.
Manager Sarah Stewart said high winds could do major damage to those aircrafts.
“Worst-case scenario, if it’s not tied down properly or if we get a sudden gust of wind, a plane literally could flip over,” she said.
Stewart said about 12 planes are parked in the Gateway hangar, with other pilots moving their craft further inland in an attempt to avoid the worst of the storm.
Stewart added her clients are checking the forecast every hour.
