Halifax Stanfield International is one of six airports in our country that is stepping up the screening of international passengers because of fears over the spread of the Ebola virus and officials at the airport are still getting the fine details of what the new protocols will entail.
Halifax is on the list because of our proximity to West Africa and even though no flights land here directly, there is the possibility that diverted flights will.
Spokesperson Peter Spurway told News 95.7 there are two quarantine officers already on staff.
“What we’re waiting to get the details on from the public health agency is whether there will be any additional resources coming our way,” said Spurway.
He said at this point screening will be self-reporting.
“If anyone reports that they are not feeling well and they are feverish or they present some symptoms, then these folks intervene,” he said.
Spurway said at this point they are not employing temperature taking devices to screen people for high fevers.
