Halifax Pop Explosion underway

The Halifax Pop Explosion is underway in the city and is celebrating its 22nd year and features over 100 performers.

Haligonians have until Saturday to check out all of what the international music festival has to offer.

Executive director James Boyle told News 95.7 there’s a little something for everyone.

“Local singer-songwriters, you could see a DJ, you could see some hip hop, maybe some heavier music,” said Boyle.

Boyle said the festival prides itself on bringing in performers before they make it big.

“Arcade Fire played Pop Explosion, Feist played Pop Explosion, K’naan played Pop Explosion, he said.  “It’s a really incredible musical event for Halifax, when people go, they’re really surprised by all the talent they didn’t know about before.”

As for an up-and-coming act from the area, Boyle recommends checking out musician, rapper and producer, Dartmouth’s Cam Smith.

“We’re so excited to have him play more than once at the festival, and he’s definitely an act you don’t want to miss,” Boyle said.

This is Smith’s first time playing his hometown festival, something he said means a lot to him.

“Those fans that were there when there was only 10 people in the bar, and now they can go to a show at The Forum and see a thousand people there, it’s that experience I most look forward to,” he said.
