Ottawa shooting leads to increased security in Maritimes

The shooting on Parliament Hill is having repercussions in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick

The military in Halifax is stepping up its security protocols after in light of the ongoing situation in Ottawa.

Military spokesperson Mike Bonin confirms to News 95.7, some gates have been locked and measures have been taken to protect military personnel inside the bases.

Similar actions are being taken across the country.

Meantime, the Chief Clerk of the House Of Assembly says the Nova Scotia Legislature has increased security in light of what’s going on on Parliament Hill.

Neil Ferguson says Province Pouse is not locked down, but there is an additional police presence and restricted access.

At the New Brunswick legislature in Federicton, the sergeant-at-arms ordered that legislative assembly buildings be closed to the public.

A soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa has been shot by an unknown gunman.

Shots were also fired inside the Centre Block on Parliament Hill.
