HRM to enforce parking ban for a 5th day

Thursday will be the 5th day in a row the winter parking ban will be enforced in HRM.

Vehicles left parked on city streets overnight from 1-6 a.m. risk being ticketed or towed.

The city says in addition, they are putting temporary ‘No Parking’ signs on select streets where it has been difficult for local traffic, buses and emergency vehicles to get around parked cars.

Flurries are expected later today, with another 5-10 centimetres of snow on the way tomorrow.

And Halifax Regional School Board is asking drivers to be extra cautious.

Many young students walking to and from school could be difficult to see with towering snowbanks near crosswalks.

Spokesperson Doug Hadley says parents dropping off and picking up kids should expect the process to take longer as school driveways and parking lots are narrower than normal.

He says for the time being, schools have been asked to keep students inside for recess and lunch until conditions improve.
