Jury selection complete in Loretta Saunders murder trial

HALIFAX – A jury has been selected in the case of two people charged in the death of Loretta Saunders.

Ten men and four women were chosen to serve as jurors in the first-degree murder trial of Blake Leggette and Victoria Henneberry.

Their trial opened Monday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court, more than a year after they were arrested in Ontario and brought to Nova Scotia to face the charges.

Henneberry’s lawyer had asked that the two accused be tried separately, a motion that Leggette’s lawyer supported but the court rejected.

Four weeks have been set aside for their trial.

The 26-year-old woman’s body was found in a wooded area off the Trans-Canada Highway in New Brunswick, two weeks after she disappeared from her Halifax apartment in February 2014.
