HALIFAX – A death of a elderly resident at a continuing care facility in Halifax over the weekend has been ruled a homicide, but no charges will be laid.
Officers were called around 9:30am Sunday morning to investigate the incident at Parkstone Enhance Care facility on Parkland Drive after an 81-year-old man had died around 10:30pm the night before.
Police say that based on their investigation, it’s believed an altercation occurred between the man and a 71-year-old male resident at the care home earlier in the week, resulting in the victim falling down and later passing away.
The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday and while the death is ruled a homicide, investigators, working with the Public Prosecution Service decided charges won’t be laid based on the suspect not being criminally responsible due to cognitive impairment.
