Province’s projected deficit grows $25-million

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s projected deficit has grown $25-million since the spring budget, and is now forecast to be roughly $122.5-million.

Finance and treasury board minister Randy Delorey gave the new figures during a fiscal update this morning.

Delorey said the higher projected deficit is mostly because of slower growth in provincial tax revenue, and higher than expected home care costs and winter cleanup expenses.

Expected revenues are also down $10-million to a new estimate of $9.9 billion.

Delorey says continuing economic uncertainty means the government will continue to look for savings where it can.
