Halifax police looking to solve 2009 murder

HALIFAX – Homicide investigators with Halifax police are asking the public for help solving a 2009 murder of Tanya Jean Brooks, who was found in a basement window well of St. Pat’s Alexandra Elementary School.
Brooks, also known as Tanya Lynch, was known to frequent the Gottingen Street area, and was last seen leaving Regional Police Headquarters around 8:20 p.m. on May 10, 2009.
Investigators believe Tanya knew her attacker or attackers, and are confident witnesses have not yet come forward.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the school at this time or has information about Brook’s murder, “to break their silence.”
The case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a major unsolved crime.
