HALIFAX — The city confirmed Monday Director of Halifax Transit Eddie Robar has resigned.
Robar will be leaving his position in Halifax by the end of the year to start as the branch manager for Edmonton Transit. He says his best memory with transit in the city was the Canada Games. He says the worst was easily the 41-day Metro Transit strike in early 2012.
“It’s a hard thing to go through, on any aspect. From an employee perspective or a family perspective,” said Robar.
Robar began his career with Halifax Transit almost 14 years ago as a scheduler and took over as director in August 2011, just in time to lead negotiations with the Amalgamated Transit Union. He also led the re-brand for Halifax Transit and has become a champion for progressive change in the service.
The municipality says it will immediately start recruiting to fill the position in an effort to create some overlap to ensure an easy transition.
