Macdonald Bridge’s old deck sections to be re-used on trails

HALIFAX – Sections of deck being removed from the Macdonald Bridge as part of the ‘Big Lift Project’ aren’t going to be thrown out, but instead, re-purposed for local walking trails.

One is already being used a bridge across a small stream on the Chain Lakes Trail.

Barry Barnet, executive director of the ATV Association of Nova Scotia, is coordinating where the decks will be installed and tells News 95.7 the old pedestrian and bike lanes on the bridge are 8 ft. wide and both 16 or 32 ft. long, making for the perfect length.

The bigger sections, according to Barnet, “become an instant bridge.”

“You simply have to pop it on the spot and away you go,” Barnet said.

He predicts in three years time, Haligonians will sections used across the entire province.
