HALIFAX – The Halifax Mooseheads acquired more draft picks after another Quebec League deadline deal, all part of an effort to help solidify the team’s rebuild.
Halifax making an 11th hour trade with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies Wednesday afternoon, acquiring the Huskies’ first round pick in 2017, second round pick in 2017 and a fourth round selection in 2018 in exchange for 19-year-old Captain Timo Meier.
Meier made an impact in his two-and-a-half seasons in Halifax, scoring 90 points in 2014-2015, en route to becoming the ninth overall pick in the NHL entry draft by the San Jose Sharks.
The QMJHL trade deadline window expired at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
It’s the second key departure from the team this week, after General Manager Cam Russell pulled the trigger with Shawinigan Tuesday, acquiring the Cataractes first round pick in 2016 along with 20-year-old defenceman, and Dartmouth native, Zachary Taylor in exchange for 20-year-old forward Danny Moynihan and Quebec’s third round pick in 2016.
