Sonic Concerts asking those scammed with fake Arkells tickets to get in touch

HALIFAX – A Halifax concert promoter is asking fans who received fake tickets to Saturday’s Arkell’s show to come forward with their information so it can be passed along to Regional Police.
Erin McGuire, marketing manager with Sonic Concerts, said the fake tickets we’re so detailed that the scam wasn’t noticed until fans were already lined up at the Halifax Forum for entry on Saturday night.
The tickets being scanned had an invalid bar code so those with the fake tickets we’re eventually denied entry.
“It sounds like they’re from the same person, just sent from different e-mail addresses,” McGuire said, who added that the tickets were bought with e-mail money transfers from sellers that advertised on Kijiji.
She said it appeared the bar code was taken from a previous concert and transposed on to a very real looking ticket.
It’s unclear how many of these tickets were sold.
McGuire said the company hasn’t had the situation happen before, as usually there’s only a couple of fake tickets per concert, but it’s never as widespread as Saturday’s concert.
Anyone who believes they fell victim to the scam is asked to contact the company by email with their information so it can be passed along to Regional Police.
The Integrated Fraud Unit of Regional Police said they had been made aware of the situation and are following up.
McGuire said the situation serves as a reminder to concertgoers to only buy tickets from authorized re-sellers.
“This show was sold out for five weeks, so if you’re in that situation and the tickets are still at face value, it’s likely too good to be true.”
