Halifax could set temperature record

If we reach today’s Guaranteed High of 10 degrees, we’ll set a temperature record in Halifax.
NEWS 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski said the old record of 9.4 degrees was set in 1988, and he thinks we could get to double digits this afternoon.
“It’s supposed to be about -1 for the daytime high, so we’re about 10 degrees warmer than we should be,” he explained. “The overnight temperatures should be dipping down to about -11, and overnight we’re down to about -4, again it’s substantially above normal.”
Zurawski added we have another chance of setting a record on Thursday.
“We’ve got another low pressure system moving in, daytime highs will be between 10 and 13 degrees, along with rain and fog.”
Zurawski said a combination of climate change and El Nino are either to be thanked or blamed for the conditions.
“The entire Eastern Seaboard continues to get this widely swinging weather, we go from storm to storm but the temperatures are way above normal,” he said. “We’ll get a little more snow, but it will melt rather quickly afterwards.”
He added outdoor enthusiasts may need to trade their snowboards for surfboards, with the mild temperatures stretching into mid-February, he thinks what snow we have on the ground will soon disappear.
